The Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) is offering three college scholarships, one for $1,000 one for $500, and one for $300 to graduating MCPS high school seniors who have demonstrated strong participation in local community service activities.

This $2,500 scholarship seeks to identify and reward a member of a Southwest Virginia high school golf team who exemplifies leadership, academic excellence, sportsmanship, and community service. The mission of the New River Valley Home Builders Association Scholarship Committee is to support the future growth of the Construction Industry by providing aid to deserving students enrolled in construction-related studies at Virginia’s Universities, Colleges, Trade Schools and within Working Internships. We will present a scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating senior from a New River Valley High School who is interested in entering the Construction Industry. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to South West Virginia area, African-American graduating high school seniors who desire advanced education and who have attended a local high school for the last two years. Two $1000.00 awards will be given to qualifying local area high school students. Applicants who demonstrate need will be judged on their academic standing, personal achievement, community involvement, and one letter of recommendation from members of the school administration and/or teachers and one personal reference letter. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is seeking submissions for its 2019
essay contest. Students are invited to consider and share their thoughts on the
question: “How has the right to freedom of speech established for public school
students in the Supreme Court case of Tinker v. Des Moines evolved in the 50 years
since it was decided?” The contest is open to all students currently in grades 9 through 12 from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Essays are limited to 1,000 words and must be submitted by April 15, 2019.
Students have the opportunity to win one of three cash prizes: first place, $2,000;
second place, $1,500; and third place, $1,000. Winners will be announced in July, and
travel will be provided to the court’s Constitution Day event in September 2019.

The Marocchi Memorial Scholarship goes each year to two graduating Virginia seniors who plan to attend a Virginia college or university in the fall, and who plan to participate in that school’s ROTC program (any branch). Debbie was dedicated to the growth of young athletes. She spent many of her free hours helping young athletes improve and perfect their skills. It was her goal to help young athletes become the best they could be. The Debbie Snell Memorial Scholarship is being offered to help a student athlete further their education. In order to be selected as a candidate for this scholarship you must be a student athlete with a GPA of at least 2.5.
