The Harry Byrd Leadership Award rewards high school students who demonstrate academic accomplishment and who also embody excellence of character, leadership, and good citizenship. Each high school in Virginia may nominate one graduating senior whose application will be reviewed by the Award Selection Committee. Award winners will receive $10,000!
If you would like to considered for the nomination you must sign up in guidance and submit the following materials to Ms. Dwoyer by October 21:

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created in 1995 to recognize students in middle and high school who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. Eligible students must be in grades 5-12 and have engaged in a volunteer service project.
The online application is available at: http://spirit.prudential.com andwww.nassp.org/spirit. Once all BHS applications are submitted one BHS student will be nominated by the school for state-level honors.

The Davidson College Belk Scholarship recognizes and rewards students of demonstrated superior intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership skills. The scholarship award is annually renewable, equivalent the college's comprehensive fees.
Belk Scholars represent the finest attributes of the Davidson student body: intellectual excellence and enthusiasm, integrity, global awareness, and leadership ability and potential.

The UVA Jefferson Scholars program awards scholarships to students intended to cover the cost of four years of attendance at UVA. This prestigious program selects students who have demonstrated uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents, and an understanding of the broader community around them. The scholarship program is highly selective, high schools may only nominate one student per school. To learn more about the program, click here.
If you would like to be considered as the Blacksburg High School nominee to the Jefferson Scholars program you submit the following information to Ms. Dwoyer by October 23:
Resume of your accomplishments including, but not limited to: List of academic projects you have been recognized for and other awards you have received; Extracurricular activities, including community service and other activities outside of the classroom.
Short essay (around a paragraph): Discuss why you would like to be considered for the nomination, what going to UVA and being part of the program would mean to you as well as your college career.
All students who submit these materials will be reviewed by the BHS nomination selection committee; the committee will select ONE student as the nominee. The nominee will be notified by November 2 and will have until December 1 to complete their Jefferson Scholar’s Program application.
BHS DEADLINE (MATERIALS TO MS. DWOYER): OCTOBER 23
The Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University seeks candidates who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership, as well as academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum. High schools may nominate candidates who exhibit qualities that embody the essence of the Danforths - maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to community. Nominated students must complete an application. Up to 40 finalists will be selected. Multiple full- and partial-tuition scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate students.

The Wendy's High School Heisman recognizes well-rounded young men and women who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the class room, on the field, and in the community. Every year, Wendy's High School Heisman and The Heisman Trophy Trust team up to recognize more than 5,000 of the best high school seniors. Applicants should have at least a 3.0 GPA, participate in a sport recognized by the IOC, be a leader in the school and community, and serve as a role model. You can find the application here. However, in order to qualify for the program, a school official must review your application. Please see Ms. Dwoyer if you are planning to apply by September 23.
