The Tau Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is pleased to offer two scholarships for deserving two students of the New River Valley Community. Each scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $650.00. Students from underrepresented and underserved groups are encouraged to apply. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to South West Virginia area, African-American graduating high school seniors who desire advanced education and who have attended a local high school for the last two (2) years. Two $1000.00 awards will be given to qualifying local area high school students. Applicants who demonstrate need will be judged on their academic standing, personal achievement, community involvement, and three (3) letters of recommendation from members of the school administration and/or teachers and one (1) character reference. DEADLINE: MAY 2, 2018 To be eligible for the BAC Scholar-Athlete Award students must have participated in interscholastic athletics at BHS, be a senior, have won a varsity letter in a sport prior to their senior year, and have at least a 3.5 GPA. DEADLINE: MAY 1 George Marshall Holmes was a resident of Blacksburg, Virginia. At his request, a scholarship has been established in his name for a deserving student/students at Blacksburg High School through the National Bank of Blacksburg. In order to qualify for this scholarship, the student(s) should be highly qualified academically, demonstrate financial need, and must attend Virginia Tech as a full time student in the fall of 2018. DEADLINE: DUE TO MS. DWOYER APRIL 20 The Rev. George Ducker Scholarship is awarded in memory of the Reverend George L. Ducker, member of the New River Community Action Board of Directors 1986-1992, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Radford, Radford City School Board and United Way Board member, community leader and advocate of quality education for all. DEADLINE: APRIL 17 The Hunters Lodge of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Virginia is providing a $500 scholarship to a deserving student graduating from BHS. Students are selected on the basis of merit and need. Merit includes academic achievement, class rank, standardized test scores, participation in high school, community, church or synagogue activities, as well as the quality of application essays. APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 6 (TURN IN TO MS. DWOYER) The Montgomery/Radford/Floyd County Branch of the NAACP will award the Samuel H. Clark Memorial Scholarship. $100 will be granted to up to 5 qualifying applicants based on the quality of their applications. Applicants must be a current member of the Montgomery/Radford/Floyd NAACP Youth Council, or a child/grandchild of a current NAACP member of the Montgomery/Radford/Floyd Branch of the NAACP.

DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2018 The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County and Radford Scholarship Fund has announced their 2018 Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding high school senior who plans to pursue studies in a human services/human medical field. The recipient will receive a $1000 scholarship for tuition assistance

DEADLINE: APRIL 20, 2018 This scholarship provides financial assistance to individuals attending an accredited technical school, college or university where the student/applicant’s learning is focused on building applications and studies in the area of building design, building construction, building engineering and facility maintenance.
